A new study shows that men who take a drug called Viagra may be more likely to have a heart attack in a long-term relationship. The results are presented at the 25th annual meeting of the American Heart Association.
The study was presented today by Dr. Steven G. Karpman, M. D., Ph. D., chief of the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at the American Heart Association's annual meeting.
"We found that men who took Viagra had a higher rate of heart attack and a higher rate of death than those who did not take the drug," Dr. Karpman said.
"We also found that the patients who were prescribed Viagra had a higher rate of heart attack and a higher rate of death than those who were not taking Viagra."
The findings were published in theJournal of the American Medical Association.
The researchers examined the records of 468 men who took sildenafil (Viagra), an erectile dysfunction drug for high blood pressure, and found that men who took Viagra had a greater rate of death compared to those who did not take the drug.
"For this study, we found that the men who took Viagra had a greater rate of heart attack and a higher rate of death than those who did not take the drug," Dr.
